JR. Youth:

We will be meeting on the Friday Nite (September 30th) for more wild games

and possibly a neat-o craft. Meet at CadBay UC in the Gym at 6:30 pm!

SR. Youth:

Having sweated out our first meeting with obstacle courses and a few

awkward ice-breakers (power animals, anyone?), PREPARE TO STRENGTHEN OUR BONDS.

Meet at CadBay UC in the Gym at 7pm (SUNDAY, October 2) and we’ll go from

there.

We will be meeting on Friday, September 16th from 6:30-8:30pm at CadBay UC. Bring running shoes, energetic minds, and the perfect design for the cupcake of your dreams.

SR. YOUTH:

We will be meeting on Sunday, September 18th from 7:00-9:00pm at CadBay UC. As it’s our first meeting, bring dreams for what you want this fall’s youth group to look and feel like: your ideas WILL shape what we, as a community/crew, will do. Of course, there will be cupcakes.

March Madness was a blast! Thanks again for all the wonderful help with the Pancake Dinner, Crazy Chaos Hair Day, T-shirt GLOW party and much more! Cadboro Bay Youth Group will be having a busy month of April, as it time has come for the long awaited…drum roll….SLEEP OVERS!! First off, the first week of April will consist of…

Junior Teens, Friday April 1st 6:30-8:30pm:
APRIL FOOL’S DAY FUN! Silly games and pranks included. Get ready to get silly! Snack will include Jello/ pudding dirt and worms. yum yum!

Seniors Teens, Sunday April 3rd 7-9pm:
GENDER SPLENDOR! Time to explore ideas of what we think we know about being a girl, what we think we know about being a boy, and learning new ideas along the way! Dress up games, skits, and trivia… it is battle of the genders or maybe learning a bit more about each other as people? Come join us to find out!

*Note that all participants planning on attending sleepovers must have attended a youth event at some point this school year **

JUNIOR TEENS SLEEPOVER (grade 4-6)
The weekend of Palm Passion Sunday will be the JUNIOR TEENS sleep over on Saturday April 16th and will be organizing and participating in the Sunday morning Palm Sunday Service.  The event will start at 8pm Saturday at the church and will include making home-made pizza from scratch using a variety of locally grown produce! The night will include games, (yes, the PEACE GAME!), Sunday morning drama preparation, and a movie in the sanctuary.

SENIOR TEENS SLEEPOVER (grade 7-12)
Easter weekend (Saturday, April 23rd) will the Seniors Sleepover Event. The group will meet at 7pm (time may change) for a wide group game with St. Georges youth group and the early morning service at Telegraph Cove followed by breakfast served at St. Georges United. The night will include many games and exploration of the theme of “the reborn Phoenix”. Get your wands ready for a little biblical and Harry Potter exploration!

This weekend’s schedule is looking slightly different due to it being Spring Break!
The Juniors will still meet at 6:30 on Friday, but contrary to our usual habits of congregating in the Gym, please head STRAIGHT up the youth room!

We will be having a quick check in and game before attending the performance put on by the Spring Break Camp! There will be refreshments and snacks after the performance for everyone to enjoy

Seniors will be meeting from 7-9pm as regularly scheduled even though I assume most are away right now. We will be in the Youth room playing games and doing some spiritual practices (painting, clay, musical appreciation, etc.)

APRIL UPDATES
For those who love information as far in advance as possible, here is the update for sleep overs… drum roll please:

1)There will be NO JUNIOR YOUTH GROUP Friday April 15th…why you ask? Because the Juniors will be having their very own SEPARATE Sleep OVER on Saturday April the 16th and will be a part of the Palm Passion Sunday service on April 17th.
Stay tuned for more updates on themes and parent volunteer opportunities.

2) Senior Teen Sleep Over happening EASTER WEEKEND (April Sat. April 23/Sunday April 24th). There will be a amalgamation with St George’s Youth Group for a Saturday night activity (wide game potential), as well as creating an artistic contribution (poem, tableaux, song, etc.) for the Sunday morning service.

Enjoy a race to the finish with lots of fun challenges, games, and activities surround “Love to the World” Scavenger hunt of biblical symbolism and candy all around. Snack provided.

Senior Youth Sunday 7-9pm
SPIRITUAL GROWTH IN MOTION!
Relax while participating in stations of spiritual growth from painting on canvas, writing letters, labyrinth candle-lit walk, music appreciation and more. The second hour will be hanging out and rocking out to rock band on the big screen! Hope all can come.

Upcoming activities for the month of February include a Valentine scavenger hunt in the church for the Juniors. Come prepared to eat goodies, work with your group to find “love in the world through the word” with games and some bible trivia to search high and low for some special treats! See you Friday February 5th and 18th for this month if you are Junior Youth.

Seniors will be hanging out for some spiritual practice time to help deal with the busy season of midterms! This will include some meditation, music appreciation, art projects and discussions, as well as some rock-band and hang out time in the sanctuary! Come enjoy a casual and fun environment on a Sunday evening.  If you are a senior teen from grade 9 and up, Confirmation weekend will be happening February 19-20th. Please contact Alex or Mark for more details.

**The youth group has started a family rotation for the Bottle recycling initiative, where one family of the youth group per month will take the collected bottles to the depot and money returned will be put towards to youth fund. Please contact Alex with more details on how to sign up at alex@cadbayuc.org. **

I hope to find everyone rested and well for the new year and ready to embrace a whole new wave of fun activities for our group to enjoy.

This year, with the intention of empowering youth to create change in the world, there will be a variety of options for us to embark on together and explore ideas of world change, faith, environmental activism and much more.

I would like to outline some ideas of where the youth will be participating in congregational activities, as well as in the community.

1) Shrove Tuesday at Cadboro Bay will be happening in the beginning of March this year, and the youth group has the honor of providing the preparation and service for this event. We will need lots of help with purchasing and driving groceries, as well as cooking from parents, so please let me know if this is something you would be willing to help with and I will create a list of things for us to complete all together!

2) “WELL” is a play written and directed by Wade Lifton about the growth of two youth who find each other and God through the process, learn about the precious gift of WATER and how the necessity of its source brings people together across the world. With the funds raised from the performances, Wade went to build water reservoirs by catching rain water and providing clean drinking sources to small rural communities in Africa. His project has been completed successfully last year, but I would love to continue his work by having the senior youth group perform this piece at the church in May this year and perhaps have a touring performance to other United Churches in Victoria if possible.

Auditions will be held in late January.

This project would include acting, set design, costume design, public relations and advertising, marketing and finances, and much more. A variety of skills will be needed, so please don’t hesitate to participate if you have stage fright! There is a role for all who wish to be involved.

3) the TC 10K run is happening May 1st this year and it would be amazing if the youth were able to put in a team! A challenge as one becomes a adventure as many, so let’s get our butts into gear and run it together. It will be fun, fitness, and fabulous!

4) Youth Coffee House: Have a hidden talent? Wanna share? A promotional event to other youth groups of Victoria wide United Churches called”Young Talent,” has been created as a great opportunity to show off an art, skill, or neat trick amongst friends. Ideas start but don’t end with playing an instrument, monologues or short play, spoken word, poetry, magic, singing, beat boxing, create a music video, film, art project, and more! Dates and location TBA (Approx. mid April)

There will be plenty of other outings and activities, such as SLUGS volunteering with (Sustainable Living Urban Gardening Society), Movie Night at the church, youth vs. congregation football game (or insert sport here), and of course, the infamous SLEEP OVER, as well as much more.

So please let me know if there are any other suggestions for other activities or events and I will try my best to include them.

For this last week of programming before the holidays, the Junior youth will be meeting at the church for the regularly scheduled time of 6:30-8:30pm. We will be playing lots of Christmas games in the gym such as a “Santa Relay Race”, “elf, Rudolph,Snowman!”, “Snowman dance off” and as well as decorating cookies so come prepared to run around and eat sweet treats!

Also, as a fun extra event for BOTH JR & SNR YOUTH TOGETHER we will be having a “FREE HOT CHOCOLATE & HUGS! day” down at the Cadboro Bay Village out by Peppers/ starbucks area on SATURDAY Dec. 18th from 12noon- 2pm. No need to come for the full two hours if you can only commit to a portion of it.

This Sunday night will be the last Senior Teens until the new year! Regular Program time will be from 7-9pm at the church and we will be having our Secret Santa, fun games, special treats and goodies and perhaps a movie! (Elf or Home Alone are on the table…)
